Tips for Photography?

Girlnextdoor asked the question:

I am 13 years old and I have been interested in photography since the age of 10. I have been thinking alot about getting a career in photography and starting my own business, but my question is where do I start? Obviously I am not old enough to run my own business, but if anyone could post some tips to help me get started I would greatly appriciate it.

Please help! Thanks in advance!(:
I own a SLR(Nikon D40) with a 18-55mm lens.
I have been practicing in Manual and Auto mode.
I would also appriciate if anyone could post some tips on buliding a Photography Blog. I have also pondered on that.

maybe read a photography book. also you might want to get involved in your school yearbook because they need photographers(probably).

A good place to start at your age is to get involved with the high school yearbook as one of their photographers. It will help you get your photos published and show initiative on your part when you look for employment later on. For now, open a free account at , submit your photos and see if you can sell some of them. Good Luck.

Glad to hear you are so focused so early. I began to be interested at about your same age. Just keep your camera handy and keep on clicking for now. Download Picasa for some fun things to do with your pictures. Always remember to save your original first. You can visit my website at

    Hi, Amber.

Kodak has a great online source for picture-taking tips.

At some point, you’ll want to take the camera off auto, and learn the controls.

EDIT; Just checked back in and saw you posted some photos! Gorgeous! You can blog for free at blogger.com
