Corey asked the question:

I was thinking about getting into photography. I want to work for like national geo or something and take pics of like wild life or work for like time magizine and take pics of the war or something. How dangerous is that career and is that a job i could possibly get or is that a very hard job to obtain??

first you have to learn to take fantastic pics. its not as easy as it looks and not everyone can do it. take a photog class that deals with the bisiness of photog. all the info you need is there.

The salary of a photographer various significantly. I am a mortgage consultant and have done loans for like 5 of my friends whom are photographers so I can tell you what their salaries are like. First of all, many photographers are work as freelance agents—meaning that they don’t just work for one employer. In other words, they are self-employed. Many photographers (without connections) usually suffer their first year making 32,779/yr (in the 10th percentile) but once you become a little more recognized you can get paid between $44,991-$68,460 (25% percentile-75% percentile)….one of my friends works for a fashion agency in England and he makes around $77,615 to $80,000 depending on the year but he has like 10-12 years experience.

But if you LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY—-DO IT. It will be fun but you will be poor at first.

    1) Take classes in photography
    2) Build your portfolio

BOTTOM LINE IS—IT IS GOING TO BE A HELL OF A RIDE but you might be able to travel alot. Getting a job with National Geographic is not that easy to get. In fact, currently National Geographic is not hiring photographers unless you are already an established photographer:
