As along as you learn the basics of how to compose, expose, develop and print perfect images on demand and then your photo art will be as you pre-visualize.
If you want to become a professional photographer, then you may want to find a school that provides either classes in commercial photography or photojournalism … photo art is something that doesn’t keep the roof over ones head, unless you teach it.
A minor in art would be good but in the end it all comes down to being able to produce marketable images on demand.
Each school has a curriculum for each major and minor, so you pretty much have to compete the core requirements before you take any electives and by that time you will know what field of photography you want to pursue.
