Fashion Photography?

Lume asked the question:

I’m a young student, hoping to enter London College of Fashion to pursue my dream of becoming a fashion photographer.

My question to you is, what do you think of fashion photography as a career?

my friend did it. it didn’t lead him anywhere. so he went to nursing. now that fool is making $100+ k a year. i call him my personal sissy RN. hahahha. we’re best of buds. but he did get something out of all the photography classes he took. he shoots wedding on the side when he gets a chance. i shoot with him. we bank about $2k for a saturday. not bad on a saturday shoot. just hard to get in fashion photog. you have to compete w/thousands of others who are a lot better at times. good luck on your dreams though.

    Honest hard truth:

If that’s what you’re going to do for a living,
you better be darn good at it.
There’s alot more to Photography itself than pressing a button. It’s easy to pick up, but is difficult to master.

Have a look at some photography books, tutorials, and the like. Study the field of fashion photography, and be absolutly sure that’s what you want to do.

Also, Media related careers are much like the entertainment business. It’s a shallow world and it’s a world of rejection, even for the some of the best.

Trust me, the life of a shutterbug isn’t as glamorous as it looks from a distance.
