Interested in working in photography, any advice?

It has been my lifelong dream to work for National Geographic or Time, but I don’t know how to get started. I don’t have any big degrees, but I feel like I have a photographic eye and a distinctive style. Other than just bombarding these companies with my photos during one of their photo contests and hoping that someone will be blown away by one of my photos and offer me the career of a life time, what other way should I go about becoming an addition to one of these companies? I’m not a rich kid who can travel the world taking pictures and have a lot of diverse people and places amongst my photos, but I do the best I can here in Florida-but I want that to change. I want to expand and capture the world through photography-and be paid for it! Is there anyone who has a similar background or that can offer advice on where to start?

I have about 400-500 dollars to spend on a great digital camera. Any recommendations?

Dance Career?

OK, so i obviously am going to become a dance teacher/choreographer/dancer when i get older. I am going to go to university and get a degree in dance, but do you think that a yoga teacher would be a good career after dance? Cause my moms friend used to be a dancer, and now she is a yoga teacher because she 65. It keeps up your strength and flexibility, so i think that it is a good idea. Cause i do not know anything else i would like to do, maybe photography? Any other careers or tips would be nice. THANKS

I plan to continue pursuing photography as a career now that I am back home and wanted to get your guys opinion on whether or not I can refer to myself as a professional photgrapher as it was my job (and I received a salary)? photography for beginners?

im getting a nikon d40 this weekend becuz i like photography now…
i have a sony5.1 cyber-shot, which ive noticed isnt a very good photography camera. :p
…ive heard the best for beginners and its easy to use is nikon d40?
give me any tips on ways to learn and understand photography, ive realized you dont just look at something and snap a pic, it includes lighting, shutter and all that stuff?

more about what i am aiming for is (taking pictures of landscapes, anything nature type, skyes, i also like to take pics while driving on long rides to other states bcuz i see the city lite up, bridges, skyes, mountains, is it a good idea to take pics while driving??)

im not even a biginner yet lol!! i need to LEARN.
its not like i want a career in photography though, just a hobby, but i want to be good at it atleast, you know?

does the nikon d40 have flash?? and i like to take pics in the dimlight almost dark but my camera always flashes and makes it bright, how do i take a good picture of how i view it from my eyes??idk if that makes sense to you??
